Be Strong were blessed to receive 2 accolades at the Manchester Gospel Awards at Chorlton last night.

This was the 3rd annual Manchester MCG Awards which are made to recognise the contribution of some of the great people making a positive impact in our local communities.

The scope of the MCG Awards spans 9 categories with the winners in each category chosen by public vote.

Be Strong were kindly recognised and won the Charity Of The Year award and Darren Armstrong was blessed to receive the Inspirational award.

Aaron Jackson

Aaron Jackson proudly displaying his Emergency First Aid Certificate of Competency that he achieved through Be Strong.

Aaron has been at Mark II bathroom & kitchen distributors since the beginning of December 2011 and is now on nights working towards his NVQ in Warehouse and Distribution.

Gareth Hart

Gareth Hart has grown from strength to strength since joining the Be Strong project.

The love he has for his children has never been stronger and he has just secured accommodation to be closer to them.

The potential that Gary has shown has been amazing and he has just completed his FA level 1 coaching qualification – I have nothing but positive things to say about this man – loyalty, reliability and honesty are his greatest strengths ……

Nicola Longworth & Gary Crawshaw

Gary and Nicola are the first couple to come on Be Strong project.

John came to Be Strong homeless and moved into the Be Strong House. He started attending church and see his mum again. His relationship with his girlfriend improved and is now living with her in their own apartment. What’s more, John now works as a security guard all over the Northwest!

Kelly Farlow

Kelly has been out of prison for over 4 months now, has been attending church since the day she was released and is now working 40 hours a week for an industrial cleaning company in Manchester.

Nick Bradley

Nick has been on Be Strong for 10 months and has been out of prison for 11 months. Nick says this is the longest he’s ever stayed out of prison as he used to be back in within weeks of being released!

And it is with grateful thanks that we have been priviliged to be selected by Green Pastures to be their partner to provide accomodation in Bolton for homeless people.

Green Pastures are a UK Christian social enterprise that provides accomodation for those most in need – the homeless in our society.

Green Pastures houses support over 700 people through a national network of over 47 partnerships.

As a Green Pastures partner, Be Strong provide accomodation and pastoral care for residents. In addition, we are responsible for maintaining the property.

Be Strong are holding their first Exclusive Event to raise funds for The Be Strong Workshop – a project to repair white goods and recycle them at low cost to a needy community whilst at the same time providing an opportunity of paid employment for vulnerable people in the community.

We have the work lined up already, but we need to raise funds for tools, benches, testing equipment, training and the first few months rent.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

We would love your support with the next stage of our project: ‘The Be Strong Workshop’, which will provide employment for rehabilitated drug users, alcoholics and offenders who have successfully completed the Be Strong 16 week program and have made a commitment to get back to work and contribute to society.

The Be Strong “posse” walked 7.7 miles from Bury town hall to Bolton town hall and we were joined by the Bishop of Bolton who walked the whole way with us (with his shoes on though).

Thus far we have raised £1000 and are still collecting. We hope to get close to £2000 to help buy tools and equipment for the new enterprise centre.

Be Strong thank the Bishop of Bolton for his camaraderie plus spiritual and practical support.

Gary Sheader and Tony “Zico” Kelly kindly gave up their Saturday night to stay in a prison cell overnight at HMP Trafford to raise money for the Be Strong Social Enterprise ~ White Goods Recycling & Refurbishment Training Centre.

Tools and equipment are needed for the new venture.

Much thanks go to Gary & Tony for “doing porridge” for Be Strong 🙂
